Our church was founded in 1957 as the union of two long-lived Petaluma churches – First Congregational and Grace Evangelical and Reformed. The union came at the same time that our denomination was being born; it was the result of our belief that in order to live out God’s vision for the world, the church needs to find ways to live together across our differences.
Over the decades since then, it has been the mission of our church to make our community a better place for all of God’s people to live. Working with other churches, we helped to found Petaluma Ecumenical Properties, we have been a part of the important work of Committeee on the Shelterless, and we have opened the first food pantry in Petaluma, which now feeds 50-60 families a week.
Ten years ago, we became an open and affirming church, taking a stand on behalf of those who have been marginalized and making clear our commitment to be a GLBT friendly church. In 2009, we voted to join the North Bay Sponsoring Committee and began working with nine other churches and synagogues in our region to address issues such as racism, health care, immigration reform, and transportation in our community at a root level. We look forward to seeing where God will call us next!
